Birthday/Valentines Food Bash

Post by Shay »

Sean's birthday is today, and of course Valentine's Day is here on Tuesday. Since he usually does the cooking, but is always wanting me to cook more, I have decided to cook one meal a day for the next week, whether it be breakfast, lunch, or dinner. Not only that, but I've decided to attempt different meals that I have never cooked before.

These are all from recipes that have bookmarked over time as things we would like to eventually make. Below is the current line-up for the week. As I make each meal, I will be taking pictures of the end results, and will post the pictures, our thoughts, and a link to the recipe for reference. (The steak and baked mac are separate meals.)

I wasn't going to post the names until each day, but I will go ahead and say now. I don't remember the names to each off the top of my head, but the first one is a red velvet crepe with whipped cream and chocolate ganache.

These look good. It's kinda boring to do everything just in heart shape, like pasta or fried eggs. These give more thought to it.

Day 1 - Spaghetti

No recipe on this one. Spaghetti is not normally in the lineup. However, we realized that in planning for the week, we forgot to plan for that night. I rummaged through our cupboards and realized I had the stuff to make good spaghetti. I did use sauce from a jar, though. I also used freshly chopped mushrooms, angel hair pasta, 93% ground beef, fresh parmesan, and a few different seasonings.

Day 2 - Muffin Melts

Ok, seriously, this is the best damn food I have ate since Chicken Riggies. I highly recommend everyone trying this. They are soooooo easy to make! It's a friggin' orgasm in your mouth, I sewar. I used applewood smoked bacon and extra sharp cheddar. I also toasted them first and spread butter on half of them. My preference is with butter, but it is not required as the recipe does not mention toasting or buttering the muffin.

Day 3 - Tweaked Baked Mac

Used this recipe below with extra sharp cheddar cheese. I also added rotisserie chicken breast and freshly steamed broccoli. This was incredibly delicious!

3 ingredients means it is a casserole. Nice work!

OH MY GOD

Just literally reached enlightenment... i JUST realised that MAC = MACARONI!!!! I always wondered what you were talking about when you mention 'mac and cheese'.... i thought it was something to do with the Big Mac burgers you get at McDonalds..

:lmao: Lmao, Sizz! I friggin' love you.

The mac...or casserole (see, I also learned something new!) was really friggin' good. We did end up putting more cheese in it when it was done than what the recipe called for. Not sure if it's just because we're cheese freaks and seemed like it wasn't enough, or if it actually wasn't enough. So if anyone does make this, you may need to experiment a bit with the amount of cheese.

I always add more cheese. And the three ingredients rule is just something me and my brothers came up with. It's kind of funny, and makes me feel like less of a troglodyte in the kitchen.

Day 4 - Red Velvet Crepes

Don't let anyone tell you crepes are easy! This breakfast item took several failed attempts just to get about ten right. The recipe below calls for chocolate ganache, which I made, but neither Sean nor myself really cared for it. For all you excessive chocolate lovers, it may be right up your alley. But it was just too much for us. Instead, we used a boysenberry jam, but we both think the perfect jam to this would be strawberry. Either way, these were very good!

I was planning on it, but Sean didn't want it. He wanted the kind from the can.

 His response was, "Well it was easier that way!!" Silly. They were still good though. REALLY good. It was almost too much to handle though. Very very sweet. Could only have about three myself, but Sean was able to take five or six.
