Minesweeper 0-480 (Expert mode size screen)

Post by Clarence »

I'm doing a study on mine placement and how adding one mine each time effects the board... seeing when 7's and 8's start to appear.

I have documented 0-201 so far and hope to get to 480.

I beat up to 129 fairly and cheated on 130 onwards using the xyzzy [shift] [enter] [enter] cheat...

If anyone wants to see the results click here:

I was shocked to see the first appearance of a 7 was using 92 mines, expert mode has 99:

The First appearance of an 8 was 166 mines:

And the first appearance of TWO 8's was 201, which is the last game I completed with cheating:

I just beat 202 with some interesting results...

See the

Well that was where my first click was. I was surprised to see myself completely trapped in a bubble! I notice that as I add more mines that bubbles are becoming more frequent. 7 occur pretty much every game now.

Also I notice that gaps are becoming less frequent... by gaps I mean a square that neither contains a mine or a number... I wonder when the first game that has no gaps will be? Also
1's are hardly appearing in the middle anymore, I wonder when the first game without a 1 will be?

Here's 206, very surprised that at this far into this experiment that there can be 1 mine at the bottom left corner completely isolated like this:

I never knew there was a cheat to minesweeper...and here I've just been restarting the same level and trying to memorize where I screwed up. :|

for me, shift-enter-enter doesn't do anything... well, actually, 'enter' acts like a click, and 'clicks' the square mine is on, and 'shift-enter' acts like a right click.. maybe that cheat is only on the Windows XP version?

Did someone actually sticky this?

Anyway, on 214 I believe is the first occurrence of a double 7, right next to each other! When this happens no other numbers can be next to them, they are surrounded by mines.

I'm still wondering when the first game void of empty squares and 1's will happen as we get closed to 240 (The half way point which will contain exactly half mines and half free squares)

Made it to 228!

Something wacky happened in this one, see the square near the bottom left?

How did this even happen??? At the end of the game those center squares weren't clicked and the left mine counter said 0 ... so I clicked in the middle of the 3x3 box and got this interesting square with the 3's and 5's.

I just thought it was wacky.

Experienced my first wall of death!

I started playing on the left hand side and then there was no more places to click with this wall going down the middle. I didn't take a screen shot of what it looked like before I clicked the right side, but I highlighted the wall.

The systems at work were down so I had time to keep going further.

The first time there are no empty squares or 0's:
