For people living in Central Pennsylvania, TMI does not mean Too Much Information. 40 years ago this week, a stuck valve caused a couple of technicians to panic and shut off the secondary cooling loop to the Unit II reactor, thus causing the partial meltdown of the core.
At the time, my family was living in Idaho and my dad was working at the LOFT research facility. Loss Of Fluid Test.
As in, what if you stop fluid from flowing through the secondary cooling loop of an active nuclear reactor without scramming? As in, exactly what happened in Middletown, PA.
So they called my dad and asked if he would join the team testing and studying the damaged reactor as they cleaned it up. And now I live in Pennsylvania instead of Idaho.
