When Dumbledore died in Harry Potter, it made the start of the final book feel slightly emptier, even if he did turn out to be an arse. I think it's like that with Sir Walter - he wasn't a nice character, but because he was an original and a main character and had such a presence, you end up feeling the absence of the shitbag banana dude, rather than missing him himself.
