Decision

I've decided to hang up my license plates. At least for now. I just can't justify being away from home for days at a time when I still have so much repair work to do.

The decision I am faced with is this :

Get a local driving job

-or-

Get a job at the casino about half an hour from here.

Opinions?

Which one do you like more? Does the casino job include lots of night shifts and if so, are they worth it? Which one offers a higher salary?
Would you be a croupier with a tuxedo? That would be rather bodacious.

If the driving job provides you with a company car that you can use outside of work then go for it.

If not working at a casino seems a shazam! load of fun and a half an hour doesn't seem that bad.

Are you a morning or a night person? Morning person, take the driving job, night person, take the casino job. I bet you make a tuxedo look good.

There is no company car, but I have a car so that is okay. I am an all day person. I work when I have to and sleep when I have to. At the casino I would not be a pit boss, just a dealer. Sitting at the table with the gamblers. With Craps you have to do a fair amount of math in your head... calculating odds on a dozen bets all at once. With BlackJack or 21 as they call it, you have to be able to count 6 hands as quickly as possible. The more bets per hour, the more money the casino makes. And dealers make tips, so if I am friendly and skilled, and if the gamblers are winning, they will throw me a few dollars.

The driving jobs are fairly simple and the pay is okay. One job would be driving a box truck full of paper from a warehouse to a publisher. Another would be driving a truck full of truck parts to the different repair centers in the area. Not really exciting, but I could listen to music or learn a language while I am driving.

Which ever of these I decide to do, I am also looking into real estate. A friend of mine is a broker, and he said he would help me with the tests and let me sell from his office.

Go for the driving job. Simple is better.

Also I thought you said you were getting rid of your license plates. Or did I misunderstand something?

"Hanging up my license plates." Metaphorically. And specifically I was referring to the job delivering fire trucks and motor homes all over the country. I am indeed sending them their license plates back. These local jobs have their own truck, their own license plates.

Ninja recommends that I don't work in the casino. But then, he sort of hates people. Several other people have suggested that I DO take the casino job, if for no other reason than to add to my experience. I'll think about it for the next few days while I finish tearing the bathroom apart.

What kind of experiencing would you get from it? How to socialize with people? You already have that. To do some calculations and probability calculus? You can do that already.
Listen to your gut feeling.

The casino would be a new experience, but really you just have to do a) what you think you'd enjoy most and b) what would work best practically with money and transport and all that. Good luck with whatever you choose and I hope it turns out for the best :D

What did you end up choosing?

I think he flipped a coin but it landed upright in a crack so he created a localized traveling casino in his car.

Oooh that sounds both exciting and stressful. I mean, think of all the red tape he probably had to go through to make that all work out.

Well, destroying and re-building my house ended up taking more of my time and energy than planned, so I have not been working at all. since we are moving over the next few days, the dust will settle shortly after that and it will be time for The Decision.
